VBReader Support
vbreader plays audiobook files that are already on your Android device, from a folder you choose. There is no account to sign into and no server to reach, so most questions are about the app itself, not a service outage.
Public contact
Email vbreader@vbondariuk.com for support or privacy questions. This is the only public vbreader contact; this page does not link a private repository or issue tracker.
Before you ask
- vbreader does not sell or provide audiobooks; bring your own files in a folder on your device.
- vbreader reads that folder read-only, through Android's own folder picker, and never scans your whole device.
- Your database and bookmarks stay private; optional Portable Positions writes shared progress records. See the Privacy Policy for the full boundary.
- The published local build has no network permission, so it cannot check for updates or reach a vbreader server on its own.
Portable Positions and reinstalling
Choose a user-owned folder in You, Sources, Choose shared directory. All shared app documents
stay inside its exact .vbreader subfolder. No audiobook files are copied there.
Position and finished state can be restored; playback speed stays device-local and is
not restored across devices.
Bookmarks, settings and library layout are not transported. A network-backed document
provider can upload records when vbreader writes them, even without app network permission.
Other sync software may copy the folder independently; vbreader does not provide automatic
cloud sync or backup.
After reinstalling, reselect your audiobook source and the same positions folder, choose Adopt existing, then confirm recognized matches. App-private data and grants do not survive uninstall. Only exact Edition audio with a compatible ordered timeline matches: no title/path fallback or automatic re-encoded-copy matching.
“Audiobook not on this device” means the saved records remain safe but are not playable Library entries. Add the matching files. Differing concurrent device states require your choice; causally newer states, not the latest clock or furthest position, win. A pending restore can still require resolution after the audio arrives.
If access is revoked or a provider is offline, restore access and Retry. An incomplete/corrupt scan is unavailable, not “0 missing”; numeric counts are hidden until validation succeeds. Local progress remains intact. It is captured every 5 seconds while playing and on pause, seek, chapter and finish events; provider copying can lag further.
Disconnect keeps shared data and local progress. Delete shared data is a separate confirmed action for the displayed dataset, which other devices may use. It never deletes your audiobook folders or unrelated siblings. Interrupted cleanup needs the same folder, not a substitute.
Layout and rotation
Adding a folder previews its layout before importing. Confirm once, or Cancel to add nothing. For an existing source, Apply layout shows before/after changes and is disabled for a no-op. Review is for unresolved grouping decisions, not every path that missed the template. A blocked or stale decision says nothing changed; refresh and try again. Rotation keeps the current screen, Back stack and safe layout draft/cursor; confirmations must be reopened against fresh data. A fresh launch starts at Home.
Release availability
1.0.0, versionCode 5 is an Internal Testing candidate. Physical acceptance is not complete. Production is not available. This site does not offer a public Production download.
Privacy questions
For how vbreader handles your data, read the Privacy Policy. It covers what the local candidate stores and writes to a shared folder, what is never sent to the developer, and how independently copying providers differ from a vbreader sync service.
